New CSS at Slashdot…

Well no sooner do I start my new blog, looking for the opportunity to play with some css hacks I have been readin up on, then I see this cool news at zdnet, it seems that slashdot has updated it’s look and feel with new css over there!

Well no sooner do I start my new blog, looking for the opportunity to play with some css hacks I have been reading up on, then I see this cool news at zdnet, it seems that Slashdot has updated it’s look and feel with new css over there!

The winner for the Slahdot redesign contest says he sat down for 48 hours to create it, there are updates posted and several comments at Alex Bendikin’s blog post about it – check it out.

I think the new design is much better, and I like the cruvieness that eases away some of the geekiness.
Can’t wait to see how they did everything..

New blog and new stuff.

Well this is my frist post with the new (to me anyways) wordpress 2.0 software. So far, so cool! I am anxious to start playing with the css possibilities so I can finally learn this stuff that I have been playing with for some time, and from what I have sen wordpress templates are supposed to be pretty easy to completely customize with css.

AOL Planning Move to Ad-Supported Model

In recognition of the fact that its subscriber-based revenues continue to plummet, AOL is planning to shift to an ad-supported business model. AOL’s subscriber base, which peaked at 30 million users, now has less than 19 million subscribers and is still dropping — over 800,000 subscribers dropped the service in this year’s first quarter alone. In addition to seeing fewer AOL CDs, a shift to ad revenue also means some serious cuts in staff size, especially in the customer service and retention departments. From the article: ‘Time Warner plans to announce a series of changes at AOL that analysts say will mark the end of the company’s paid-subscriber model. The company will begin relying on advertising sales rather than monthly fees paid by customers, according to the Wall Street Journal. ‘I don’t know whether advertising will work, but my thinking is (the changes) are basically an acceptance of what is happening,’ says Joseph Bonner, a media and telecommunications analyst at Argus Research.

Speaking at the World Wide Web 2006 conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Wednesday, Berners-Lee, the inventor of the Web, said it is now time for Web developers and content producers to start using semantic languages in addition to HTML.

A panel discussion titled “The next wave of the Web” kicked off the second day of the conference and marked the start of the technical conference content. Nigel Shadbolt, professor of computer science at the University of Southampton, told the conference attendees that what has been achieved with the Web so far is astounding by itself.
