Itunes copy protection cracked?

Filed under: Hacks — kary @ 11:35 pm

Well, if this is true I might actually buy some tunes with iTunes.. the main reason that I haven’t used the service much is the inability to take my music on my portable mp3 player and move it to my laptop. If I could just do that then I would actually pay the buck a song – I can’t believe they haven’t come out with this already..

From BBC

The code that prevents music downloaded from Apple’s iTunes store being played on any portable player other than an iPod has been “cracked”.

Apple has not commented on claims that Jon Lech Johansen has “reverse engineered” the FairPlay system.

Prominent hacker Mr Johansen has made a name circumventing software used to restrict the use of digital media.

His company, DoubleTwist, said that it planned to license the code to other digital music player manufacturers.

“There’s a certain amount of trouble that Apple can give us, but not enough to stop this,” Monique Farantzos, managing director at DoubleTwist told Associated Press.

Places and Spaces for Adults Online

So I got an invitation to help beta test a friend’s new project, and one thing led to another, and now, I have found some really cool places for adults to hang out online. After checking it out, I must agree, some of the teen hangouts like Myspace have certainly devolved, and I beleive that these are really great ideas, and soon will be the cool place for adults to hang out, write, read, post, share – you know; network.

Worpal – is a strange experiment of open source post ware

Adults ONLY Space – Myspace like place, social network for adults only.

The Adult Dmoz will become an excellent place to find the best in adults sites, keeping the riff raff away.

Adult Wordpress looks like a great place to get a blog made for adults only – there are some hot blogs there already and it’s brand new!

New sites online

I have privy to a private beta test and some of the conversation is sure going to be interesting with these new web sites that are about to launch.

Search Engine Critics – A site that is going to be a collaborative blog, and perhaps add some forums, all relating to crtiqueing the search engines. After talking to James who invited me, it seems that he wants to stray away from the search engine watch and webmaster world posting craziness, and keep it as a collaborative blog so that only specific correct answers are posted and not a bunch of I think this, I think that crap.

A sub project of this, If I had a search engnine dot com is going to feature so cool ideas for better search engineers. Some graphics and end user enhancements have been discussed, amongst other things. I hope this become collaborative as well.

Another Friend has started posting his thoughts on anotherwebcritic.com as well.
